Domestic partner benefits at Wesleyan
Sep. 26, 2008 by kanderson
Wesleyan University offers the following benefits to domestic partners of its employees: health care benefits, undergraduate tuition assistance for dependent children, and tuition remission for Graduate Liberal Studies Program courses. For information about benefits, go here: http://www.wesleyan.edu/hr/benefits/2006/benefitslandingpage.html
To be eligible for these benefits, the employee and the partner must submit to the Human Resources office an affidavit of their partnership. This process simply requires the employee and partner to fill out a form, posted here: http://www.wesleyan.edu/hr/forms.html
Health benefits and GLSP tuition remission constitute taxable income to the employee whose partner receives the benefit. If the partners are entered into a civil union in Connecticut, they have to pay federal but not state income tax on some of these benefits; please consult a tax specialist for tax advice.
Wesleyan offers domestic partner benefits to same-sex and opposite-sex couples. Wesleyan does not require same-sex partners to enter into a Connecticut civil union to be eligible for benefits.
